A camping chair shouldn’t wobble or creak every time you sit down. MoverX folding camping chairs are rated from 150kg up to 220kg, from a 1.4kg festival chair to a padded two-seater. Every one folds in seconds and packs into its own carry bag, from £19.99.
Lightweight camping chairs
Ultra Lightweight Low Chair (150kg): weighs just 1.4kg and folds to 37cm, small enough for a rucksack side pocket. It sits low, which is just right round a campfire or on the beach. £19.99 each, or £67.96 for a pack of four.
Padded camping chairs
Moon Chair (150kg): thick padding in the seat and back, a high back for your shoulders and a side pocket for your phone. It weighs 3.5kg and comes in black, blue or khaki. £34.99 each, or save with a pack of two or four.
Oversized camping chair
Oversized Chair (200kg): a deep, sofa-style seat with quilted padding and a high back, on a reinforced steel frame. Three pockets keep drinks and snacks within reach, and the 600D Oxford fabric is tough and quick to dry.
Double camping chair
Double Chair (220kg): a wide padded bench for two on a steel frame. Each side has its own cup holder and mesh pocket, and it packs into one carry bag instead of two.

Lightweight camping chairs for festivals
Two kilos is the number the outdoor magazines use for a chair you'd happily carry any distance. The Ultra Lightweight Low comes in at 1.4kg, and it's rated to 150kg, which is more than most chairs at three times the price. You sit low, close to the ground. That's exactly right around a fire or on a beach, less right if you want to eat at a table, in which case look at the Moon.
At £19.99, the Low chair is the one people buy two of, rather than four of. The two-pack is £33.98 and the four-pack £67.96. It's also the one that gets grabbed for picnics and the kids' football, and the frame sits firm on grass, gravel and the sloping corner of the field you got stuck with because you arrived late on the Friday.
Padded, oversized and double camping chairs for the campsite
The Moon is the one that never makes it back into the garage after the trip, because it's too comfortable to give up as a garden chair. Thick padding in the seat and the backrest, a contoured shape that holds your posture instead of folding you in half, a high back, and a side pocket that puts a stop to the phone-in-the-grass routine. It weighs 3.5kg and folds into its bag in a few seconds. Black, blue or khaki.
The Oversized is what it says. A deep, sofa-style seat with quilted padding, a reinforced steel frame rated to 120kg, three pockets and a 600D Oxford fabric, the same weight of cloth you'd find on a decent rucksack. It folds flat and comes with its own carry bag.
The Double is the same build, made wide enough for two adults side by side. The steel frame takes 220kg, there are two mesh pockets and two cup holders, and it's one bag to carry instead of two. Couples buy it. So do people with large dogs.
What to check before you buy any camping chair
Weight limit first. Most standard camping chairs are rated somewhere between 100 and 120kg; ours run from 120kg to 220kg. Sit well inside the number, because the rating is for a person sitting still, not dropping into the chair after a long day.
Then seat height. Low chairs are stable, light and good for fires and beaches. Higher seats are easier to get out of and work at a table.
Packed size matters more than people think. Measure the gap in your boot before you buy, and if you plan to carry the chair more than a few hundred metres, come in store and feel the difference: in one hand, over a shoulder, or on a trolley.
Fabric and frame. 600D Oxford polyester is thick, tear-resistant and quick to dry. Steel frames are stiffer and cheaper than aluminium and a little heavier.
Feet. Wide feet stop a chair sinking into soft ground. Whatever chair you buy, lift it off wet grass overnight and it will last years longer.
Looking after your chair
Knock the mud off before it dries. Let the fabric dry fully before it goes back in the bag, or it will smell by August. Never force a stiff hinge; that's how frames bend. Store it indoors over winter. Every MoverX chair comes with a 1-year warranty, and we'd much rather you bought a second one for a friend than a replacement for yourself.
